Your Art, Your Company: Colorado’s New A-Corp Option

November 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Colorado just became the first state in the country to create a legal business structure built specifically for artists. This year’s final Rural Creative Collective (RCC) session digs into what that actually means for you. Meredith Badler, Deputy Director of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, and Brian Hanning, attorney at Hanning Law Ltd in Fort Collins and longtime volunteer with CBCA and Colorado Attorneys for the Arts, will walk through SB26-133 and the new Artist Corporation (A-Corp) structure it creates.

SB26-133, the Colorado Artist Companies Act, was signed into law by Governor Polis at the Sie FilmCenter this June, a huge advocacy win for artists across the state and the country. The A-Corp is a new kind of LLC built for creative work: it helps you keep control of your art, protect what you make, share ownership with collaborators, and raise support without giving the art itself away. Meredith and Brian will cover what an A-Corp does, what it doesn’t do, and what rural artists and creative businesses should know as the first formations approach in early 2027.

This will be an info session with plenty of room for your questions, so come ready to ask what this new option means for your own work.
