Participants will work together to explore real opportunities\, develop creative ideas\, and build AI-powered solutions that could help strengthen and revitalize our city. \nBuilding on the theme of strengthening the community we live in\, this event invites participants to explore one of three challenge tracks: Infrastructure\, Public Safety\, or Community Activation. Each track represents a key pillar of community revitalization in Colorado Springs and reflects priorities identified in the City’s Strategic Doing Plan. \nThis workshop will help you move beyond simply using AI to thinking strategically about how to solve meaningful problems with it. \nThe day follows the Lowrance Curve — Define\, Design\, Create\, Validate — a practical operating model for AI-enabled problem solving. \nYou’ll start by defining the problem before choosing a tool. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next Rural Creative Connections session with co-hosts Jill Knuckles and Lise Poulsen from the 2026 Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival (MVFAF). \nFor over 40 years\, this festival called Taos\, NM home. This year marks its first time in Durango\, Colorado! Jill and Lise will share what’s ahead for the festival’s Durango debut\, happening October 3 & 4\, 2026 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds & Event Center (free admission\, free parking). \nThe festival brings together fiber artists\, animals\, and makers from across the region\, including a juried natural fiber market featuring yarns\, finished goods\, and fiber arts tools; fiber animals like sheep\, alpacas\, goats\, llamas\, and yaks; hands-on workshops led by expert instructors; live demonstrations of spinning\, dyeing\, sheep shearing\, and more; and a brand-new Yarn Bombing initiative\, where acrylic-yarn scarves\, shawls\, mittens\, mukluks\, and blankets will be hung around Durango to announce the festival\, then collected\, washed\, and donated to local assistance programs. \nDuring this virtual session\, Jill and Lise will talk about what makes MVFAF special\, what to expect at this first Durango event\, and how rural creatives can get involved\, whether as vendors\, volunteers\, or attendees. Each session will explore different Colorado-specific capital opportunities that could make a serious difference in your business and how to apply for it. \nIn this final session\, the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) will join us to cover the Venture Capital Authority Program\, which provides seed and early-stage startups $50\,000 up to $1 million in investment capital. OEDIT will give an overview of the program background and program requirements\, share the list of existing VC partners for the program\, and share success stories across the state. Whether you are currently trying to complete a training program or degree\, find a career\, or support others as an education\, training\, or employment services provider\, your feedback will help the Transition Advisory Committee improve how these systems work together. \nOur Speaker: Katherine Keegan\, Lead of Workforce Systems Coordination with the State of Colorado began her career working with immigrants and refugees in Boston. This work led her to pursue a master’s of science in social work at The University of Texas at Austin. Since then\, Katherine has managed AmeriCorps\, workforce readiness\, and career coaching development programs in Texas\, Indiana\, and Colorado. From 2019 through June 2025\, she served as the Director of the Office of the Future of Work for the State of Colorado\, leading the state’s efforts to raise awareness about the future of work\, build digital equity\, and through the State Apprenticeship Agency\, expand access to registered apprenticeship programs. In June 2025\, Katherine joined the Office of Governor Jared Polis to lead implementation of his executive order to redesign the postsecondary talent development system in Colorado.
